1. License

This package uses the EDICT file. This file is the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group at Monash University, Australia.  It is used in conformance with the Group's license.

For more information please see the EDICT website.

2. Bitmap Fonts

If you do not have Japanese fonts on your phone, then you may use the bitmap fonts supplied with the dictionary package.  Go to the Menu and select Settings -> Use Bitmap Font

The bitmap fonts were generated by the "BitmapFontGenerator" available from DictionaryforMIDs. The bitmap fonts were taken from the "MS Mincho" font. The "Font Properties Extension" tool available from Microsoft shows this font has "installable embedding allowed":
"Fonts may be embedded in documents and permanently installed on the remote system"

3. Request for Help

This edition of the EDICT dictionary for DictionaryforMIDs uses romaji to input Japanese.  The romaji input options are listed in the "romaji input readme" file.  A hiragana input system would be much better than a romaji input system.  This edition of DictionaryforMIDs does not support custom IMEs (Input Method Editors).  If you know the Java programming language and would be willing to add a hiragana IME for DictionaryforMIDs, then please contact one of the developers.

The best place to start looking is at the "OwnTextField" Java code.  It is available from the DictionaryforMIDs forum.

The EDICT dictionary marks common definitions with a "(P)" ("popular" or "priority").  Unfortunately the DictionaryforMIDs program does not have a feature to sort the (P) entries to the top of the search list.  For example, if you want to search for "dog" (a common definition), then you will also get less common definitions such as "stray dog", or "doghouse".  A sort feature would sort "dog (P)" to the top of the list.  If you would be able to add this sort feature, then please contact one of the developers.

Thank you
